A disaster can strike anywhere at any time.
Whether it’s a tornado, severe lighting/thunderstorm, straight-line wind shear, natural or man-made flood, disasters affect men, women and children from all walks of life. Some lose their lives, others are displaced and for the first time in their lives, are in need of emergency assistance.
St. Vincent de Paul Society volunteers are often referred to as “last responders.” They are the ones that remain with survivors to focus on unmet needs and long-term recovery after the news cameras disappear, the resources become scarce and the hard reality of the disaster sets in. They are the ones that remain with the survivors to provide prayer support, food, water, furniture, money for utilities and other help for those who have been temporarily out of work.
