In the counties listed above, dialing "2-1-1" will connect you to the local United Way Information and Referral Agency. Also above are links to their web page if they have one. They are the primary sources for government and local agencies that could be helpful in an emergency.

Calling local churches in your area would be another suggestion. In Cuyahoga County there are 3 neighborhood SVDP Ozanam Centers/Pantries; in Summit County there is 1; request information about their hours and zip codes they cover from the above Information and Referral Services.

For people who are 55 and older, the following web site might be helpful:

The above web site asks a series of confidential questions about income and health, present benefits, etc. which takes about 15 minutes.  The end product is a printable report providing a list of programs for which the person may qualify, where to go to apply and what documents
are necessary to complete the application.

Eligibility guidelines vary by state but in general individuals qualify if they participate in a public assistance program such as Food Stamps, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), National Free School Lunch, Federal Housing/Section 8 Assistance, or if they do not receive any of these public assistance programs, they may also qualify based on total household gross monthly income.
