January 4, 2012 SVDP Diocesan Announcements Below are some special announcements from Larry Lauter, Acting Executive Director, to bring SVDP members up to date about a number of issues: 1. Election of a new Board President: I believe that all members know that Bob Reuter, member of the SVDP at St. Bartholomew Conference in Middleburg Hts. was elected Board President and began his term on October 1, 2011. He is a very active Vincentian and was a very successful businessman who is bringing a special vision to the SVDP in the Diocese of Cleveland. You can see his background in the latest issue of “Doing Good” on our SVDP website. 2. Hiring of a new Executive Director: We are very happy to announce that the Diocesan Board has hired an Executive Director who will begin February 1, 2012. His name is John Litten and he is coming from the Cleveland Diocesan Catholic Charities System. His last position was the Director of Camp Christopher in Bath, Ohio; he is a member of St. Luke parish in Lakewood. More information about him will be sent in the near future in our newsletter “Doing Good.” 3. Insurance Coverage: We have sent a hard copy summary of the insurance coverage we have as of January 1, 2012 for the Diocesan Council, District Councils, Conferences, and Ozanam Centers. It is very similar to what the Diocese of Cleveland has for volunteers in parishes. In fact, the company that handles the Diocese of Cleveland(DISC) insurance assisted us in this. If an SVDP unit needs a Certificate of Insurance, please contact the SVDP Central Office for this. 4. Applied for our Tax Exempt Status with the IRS: We officially sent in our 1023 Application on December 15, 2011 to the IRS to request our own SVDP Tax exemption for the SVDP Diocesan Council which includes all District Councils, Conferences, and Ozanam Centers who share our EIN number. 5. EIN Number: Almost all Conferences have sent in their form indicating that they have switched their Conference EIN number to that of the Diocesan Council on all their accounts. If your Conference has not done this yet, please handle it within the next few weeks and let the Diocesan Council know. 6. Annual Report, Membership List, Dues: We are preparing our 2011 Annual Report and want to make sure it is as complete as possible. If your Conference has not yet sent it in, please try to handle it in the next few days. Since we plan on relying on e-mail communications in the future, we also need every members e-mail address. Our new Board President, Bob Reuter, is sending out news updates and a new e-mail newsletter “Doing Good.” Lastly, if your Conference has not sent in their National Dues for 2012, please remember to do this also.
